U.S. Army Depot, Safeguard

The U.S. Army Depot, Safeguard, was a subordinate command of Safeguard Logistics Command (SAFLOG). Located at Glasgow Air Force Base, Montana, it was assigned the mission of providing supply and maintenance support (except for nuclear munitions, ancillary equipment, or COMSEC design controlled secondary items) to tactical Safeguard units under the guidance and direction of SAFLOG.

The SAFLOG Historical Summary, Fiscal Year 1972 contains a chapter on the U.S. Army Depot, Safeguard, including a map of the facilities on Glasgow AFB. Unfortunately, it's missing a few pages. PDF document 358k

Dissolution of the Safeguard Logistics Command and Depot <$

From the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) TBT Facebook post, 15 Jan 2025 (New window)

January 15, 1973 – The SAFEGUARD Logistics Command, located in Huntsville, Ala., and the SAFEGUARD Depot Activity at Glasgow Air Force Base, Montana, were discontinued and its personnel and equipment transferred to the new Logistics Management Directorate in the SAFEGUARD Systems Command.

With an authorized strength of 710 civilians, 32 officers, 23 warrant officers and 29 enlisted personnel, the directorate’s mission was to plan, direct, manage and assure execution of the SAFEGUARD Ballistic Missile Defense System Logistics Support Program and provide support to the Site Defense Programs in North Dakota and Colorado. By the end of the fiscal year – June 30 in 1973 – the directorate itself was discontinued as well and replaced by the SAFEGUARD Supply and Maintenance Center, transitioning from a government-operated depot to a contractor-operated one managed by Western Electric.
