The Grand Forks AFB (SRMSC) site was the only one completed. Construction was in progress on the
Malmstrom AFB complex near Conrad, Montana, but was halted with the signing of the 1972 Salt I ABM treaty with the Soviet Union. This treaty limited each country to two ABM sites, one of which had to protect the capital city.
