The BMDC was located at the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) headquarters
within the Cheyenne Mountain complex in Colorado. Its purpose was to integrate the Safeguard system
into NORAD by providing a command interface with other military systems and a means of disseminating
command directives and controls to Safeguard sites. Had Safeguard been deployed at the twelve sites
originally planned in 1969 (

command authority co-ordinating the defensive actions of all twelve sites.
